The 3 acres restoration
CLIENT: TOM TRUELOVE RESTAURANT: THE 3 ACRES, HUDDERSFIELD
BRINGING A LOCAL FAVOURITE BACK TO LIFE
The 3 Acres is not only a local institution of hospitality but is also our favourite local restaurant, located only a few miles up the road from our Huddersfield HQ.
We’re well acquainted with The Truelove family, having installed their previous kitchen only a few years ago, this installation was tragically destroyed by fire in a neighbouring laundry room shortly after Christmas of 2023, a mere 10 months after our original installation, which at the time set new standards in the north for a kitchen of this kind.
Naturally, we picked up where we left off with ‘The Truelove’s’, with whom we are extremely fond and have the highest respect both on a professional and personal level, we obviously had a very recent blue print to work from although it would be fair to say this wasn’t simply a case of replacing the previous installation using funds from the insurance company, it was far more complex than that, this local treasure needed to be almost entirely stripped back to brick and soil, and then had to be restored in a way that preserved its previous stature but also retained its soul, not at all an easy proposition when I recall the scenes stood with Tom in the kitchen the day after the fire.
This will be the second project that we’re doing with Greens; we were so happy with the first kitchen that they finished only back in March, there was only one place we could go when this tragedy happened”

MAINTAINING MAGIC WITH STRICT BUDGETS
Having been lucky enough to be involved in quite a few ‘blank cheque projects’, I can assure anyone that they ‘re never the best installations (or restaurants) at the end of the day, the evident lack of innovation that can arise when you can simply throw cash at a problem often result in a rather dull and soulless conclusion, and I actually think that the fact that all contributing companies had to work to a very strict budget whilst also having to overcome the various issues that can present on a project of this nature that weren’t evident during our previous install contributed to retaining some of the magic that made ‘The Acres’ what its always been.
the design was based all around the movement of the chef saving time in service which benefits the customer, we love the new Josper grill and the Flexi Chef, there is such a wow factor to this kitchen and we have no shortage of chef’s wanting to work here as a consequence – we don’t want for anything”

THE GRAND REOPENING
The Acres opened again to critical acclaim in May of 2025 owing largely to the stewardship of the Trueloves but also, due to the successful endeavour of all the companies involved across the entire refurbishment, a combination which has helped to capture the magic of what was evident before the fire in a facility which will now see the family into future generations of premium hospitality
